President's Message
I would like to take a moment to introduce myself. Although I have met a large number of you through teaching, tournaments and LTC courses, I am happy introduce myself as the new President of the AIAAA. I spent 10 years as Athletic Director at Ross Sheppard High School in Edmonton and have been involved with the AIAAA since its inception in 2009 as an LTC instructor and Edmonton zone representative. I believe athletics are instrumental in the development of our youth and provide life long learning opportunities. I also understand and appreciate the crucial role athletic administrators play in providing these opportunities and I’m proud to be President of an association that supports the work you do.
The AIAAA has grown by leaps and bounds since 2009 largely due to the overwhelming support of our membership both in forms of volunteerism and partaking in course offerings. As President, my goal is to continue this growth for the betterment of athletics across this country. I would like to thank our departing board members (Rick Frey, Maurice Richard & Barb Young – photographed below) for their outstanding service, leadership and dedication over the past 4 years. I would also like to welcome our new board members and look forward to working with, and learning from, all of you.
This past year we worked with Saskatchewan as they launched Canada’s second Athletic Administrators Association: the SIAAA. To date the Leadership Training Program has delivered over 1250 courses for 650 Athletic Administrators across Canada. In the end the students are the ultimate beneficiaries by form of an enhanced athletic experience. We are excited for what lies ahead in 2013 as we welcome our 2nd Conference in Canmore from June 20-22. I encourage all of you to become involved as a participant, course instructor or a workshop facilitator at the upcoming conference. I cannot overstate the value that AIAAA initiatives play in the development of our profession.
Thank you for all you do as Athletic Directors and I look forward to serving as your President.
